Newspaper stay!
The internet has been a usable resource since the
1950s. Over the years, it has grew and transformed into something we used every
single day. Now there are so many sources within the web that we can use. There
was MySpace and now Facebook. There’s Twitter and YouTube,
and Yahoo and Google. All types of media to entertain, inform,
and persuade you. Anything you want to do at the tip of your fingers. But the
internet has made people forget about the little things that have been around
for years. Like the newspapers.
I’m going to be
talking to you about why you need to start reading a newspaper more and stop
relying on the internet for everything little thing you need. The newspaper has
been a reliable resource since 59
B.C when the first “newspaper” was published in Rome. Since then millions of
newspaper have been published around the world; containing breaking stories,
traditional news, stories about music and new technology, even comics and
puzzles. Why should we stop reading newsprints and let something so important
to many and to history die? We shouldn’t! You are letting the internet take
over your lives and let a part of history disappear forever.
Pittsburgh had their first newspaper published in 1786
by The Gazette, which is now known to
many locals as the Pittsburgh
Post-Gazette. This local newspaper has been informing and entertaining
people for many years and it still manages to stay in business. But how long
can this newspaper stay strong? I’ve worked with many of the writers and other
staff at the Post-Gazette. They are worried and know that the newspaper will
not be around for very much longer due to the lack of readers and the increase
of internet use.
Many people rely on the newspaper for work. There are
a lot of people that work for newspaper companies like the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette or the New
York Times. When the newspaper is gone, where are those people going to be?
Most of them jobless. Some of them can find other jobs, writing for other
companies. But the people that help print the newspapers and the people that
deliver the newspaper will be gone. They will not be needed no more at all if
there are no more paper copies.
And what about
the future journalists? What about all those journalism majors in school right
now, studying to be writers for a newspaper? They did all that hard work and
dreaming for nothing. They will have to start all over or find somewhere else
that they can use their skills at. But they won’t be able to complete what they
worked for and wanted to do for so long.
The internet is growing with new technology every day.
You can get your local and world news on a website now. “It’s easier to get
to,” some people will say. Well saying that, means you’re just lazy. It is not
that hard to obtain a newspaper. You can go to a supermarket or gas stations,
even some schools and get the daily newspaper. Most people have internet
now-a-days but you will never experience being able to hold so much news in your
hands if the newspaper dies. Many people actually like the experience and
feeling of being able to hold so much news and information in their hands.
Therefore, the newspaper is very important to our
history and future history. People look to the newspaper for information about
everything from entertainment to daily news and sources for jobs. If we let the
internet take over the newspapers, what are we going to let it takeover next?
